ELEVATOR INSTALLATION SERVICES

Elevator installation planning requires extensive experience and knowledge. This article will outline and discuss the steps that owners and consultants must go through to plan and design a lift installation along with other design teams.

Two main factors in selecting the unit are population and the level of user activity. Examples include train terminals, airports, office buildings, hospitals, universities, and residential homes. The type of building significantly influences the vertical transportation system required.

The quality of service is best reflected in the interval between elevator arrivals and is related to passenger wait time or interval time. The quantity of service is best reflected in the number of passenger transfers to and from destinations within a certain period as a percentage of the building’s population, also known as handling capacity.

Several factors need to be considered when determining the size of the elevator system, including lift speed, capacity, and grouping. For example (8 persons/630 kg, 13 persons/1000 kg, 16 persons/1300 kg, 21 persons/1600 kg, 26 persons/2000 kg). The lift speed for passenger transportation can be 1.0 m/s, 1.5 m/s, 2.0 m/s, or 2.5 m/s.

After selecting the type, size, and speed, you need to adjust the dimensions of the shaft and machine room, pit depth, and overhead space. Adequate space must be available according to the manufacturer’s data to ensure that the unit selection aligns with the dimensions of the building structure.

You need to determine the type of drive system you will choose. With technological advancements, power-driven systems with low energy consumption are now available. The main advantage of using a VVVF (Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) inverter drive system is utilizing a gearless permanent magnet synchronous motor. The advantage is that when the unit operates at low speed (around 100 rpm), it does not require a gearbox, resulting in less noise and lower energy consumption.

In some cases, you need to consider the placement of elevator groups. When arranging elevator groups, the position of the units needs to be considered. Ideally, all passenger elevators in the building should be grouped together in a centralized group with a single control system to provide the smallest interval time for passenger transportation. You also need to decide on the placement of elevators (and escalators/passenger conveyors, if any), and it is advisable to examine the walking distance for passengers. This examination is necessary to determine the access distance to elevator/escalator units and the distance between floors within the building. Proper placement of elevators/escalators will maximize the overall function of the units. Therefore, it is important to check and analyze the population needs of each floor served by each elevator.

There is a need to consider the items to be transported within the building. It is recommended to understand the types of goods that may need to be moved, including their physical dimensions and weight. For passenger transportation, in addition to the general transportation of passengers, it is necessary to comply with building regulations that require suitable accessibility for persons with disabilities. The management should have an evacuation plan to evacuate passengers and individuals with disabilities from the building in case of a fire.

It is a good idea to obtain multiple quotes from several suppliers in the industry. Besides price, you should also consider the features and operational capabilities of the units you choose. This is particularly important if the elevator/escalator has special features that result in low noise, safety systems, and is supported by automatic analytical processes that optimize the operation of the elevator/escalator efficiently.

For certain unit selections, you may be interested in obtaining an estimate of the energy consumption of the installed unit. Using energy-efficient elevators will reduce your fixed expenses, especially for residential elevators.

You need to consider the after-sales service aspect of the elevator product being offered. This is important, considering that the elevator unit is intended for routine and long-term use. Additionally, you should
